William III Period Oak Geometric Chest on Stand

A handsome William III period oak geometric chest on stand, dating to circa 1690–1700.

The upper chest is arranged with two short drawers above three graduated long drawers, each enriched with bold applied geometric mouldings characteristic of late-17th-century furniture. It rests upon a separate oak stand fitted with a further full-width drawer.

The chest and stand appear to have experienced historic alterations and restoration, while the decorative brass handles are probably later replacements. Nevertheless, it retains tremendous period character, a rich colour and a wonderfully timeworn surface.

Fitted with later decorative brass ring handles.
