Late Victorian Oak Collector’s Dresser and Rack

An imposing late Victorian English oak collector’s dresser, dating to circa 1880–1900 and designed in the Jacobean or Old English Revival taste.

The substantial lower section incorporates an exceptional arrangement of fifteen drawers, each with raised geometric moulding and brass swan-neck handles. Panelled sides, deeply moulded borders and broad bun feet give the piece considerable architectural presence, while the richly figured oak has developed a wonderfully warm colour and characterful patina.

Above is an open boarded rack with three long shelves, plate-retaining rails and a decorative carved frieze beneath the projecting cornice. The combination of generous display space and numerous individually sized drawers makes this an unusually practical piece—ideal for displaying ceramics, books or decorative objects while providing extensive storage beneath.

A handsome and highly individual piece of late Victorian craftsmanship, with superb proportions, rich colour and commanding presence.

Condition: Good antique condition, with honest age-related wear, marks and tonal variation throughout. The drawers operate and the brass handles present well.
