Late Qing Chinese Carved Hardwood Jardinière Stand

An impressive late Qing Chinese carved hardwood jardinière stand, dating to circa 1900.

The octagonal top features a central inset panel of beautifully figured pink and cream variegated marble, framed by a moulded hardwood border with distinctive carved beading.

Below, the deeply pierced and carved frieze is decorated with flowering branches, fruit and scrolling foliage, continuing down the four elegantly shaped legs. The stand terminates in wonderfully expressive carved feet, united by a cross-stretcher centred by a carved foliate roundel.

The dense hardwood has developed a rich, dark colour and attractive surface patina, highlighting the depth and intricacy of the carving.

A particularly decorative example with excellent presence, ideal for displaying a vase, sculpture, lamp or favourite houseplant.
