Large Framed Burmese Kalaga Embroidered Textile Panel

A spectacular large Burmese Kalaga embroidered textile panel, probably dating to the mid-20th century and presented within a substantial decorative gilt frame.

The composition features three richly dressed Burmese court or mythological figures, individually framed within circular medallions against a black textile ground.

Executed using the traditional Kalaga technique, the panel is densely worked with padded appliqué, couched metallic threads, sequins, beads, glass stones and coloured textile details. Elaborate geometric borders and stylised foliate motifs surround the figures, creating extraordinary texture and depth.

The muted gold, silver and bronze tones contrast beautifully with the dark ground, while the impressive moulded frame gives the work considerable architectural presence.

An exceptional statement piece that would make a dramatic focal point within an eclectic, maximalist or traditionally furnished interior.

Presented in good decorative vintage condition, with expected fading, tarnishing, loose or missing embellishments and general wear consistent with age and the delicate nature of the materials.
